Fat Grafting

A natural volume restoring material is your own fat. Moving fat from an area of excess to areas of needs has been done since 1897. Fat grafting to the face seems to improve the overlying skin appearance, perhaps due to stem cells which are found in fat. Fat grafting is used in the face, buttocks, and breast.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a popular choice at our Kansas City, Missouri center. This treatment is ideal for softening facial lines and wrinkles caused by hyper contraction of underlying muscles. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections soften the frown lines between the eyebrows and smooth out the crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes. The BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is extremely convenient and can typically be completed during your lunch hour. There is no downtime, so patients can return to their normal activities right away. The results of BOTOX® Cosmetic are evident after a few days, and your appearance will continue to improve for up to a month, with results lasting for up to four months.

We are pleased to offer the Kansas City community the option of facial rejuvenation with Radiesse™. Recently FDA approved, Radiesse™ is a long lasting injectable filler used to reduce facial wrinkles and folds. Radiesse™ is frequently used to fill the nasolabial and marionette folds – the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth and then down toward the chin – so that your face looks younger. Radiesse™ is also used to contour other facial areas, such as the cheeks and chin.

Woman's defined, youthful-looking jaw and cheeks

Fat atrophy of the face inevitably develops in certain facial areas as we age. This loss of fat increases skin laxity, deep folds, visibility of the orbital bones under the eyes and a hallowness of cheeks, and overall tired look. Adding volume and firmness to the face significantly improves these signs of aging. One way to add volume is Sculptra®. Sculptra® is an injectable synthetic form of poly-l-lactic acid, a compound naturally present in the body. There have been no reported allergic reactions or adverse systemic effects since its use began in 2004.

Sculptra® is injected by a small needle into the deep layers of the skin. Around these tiny micro beads of poly-l-lactic acid, the body forms fibroblasts which produce new collagen. New collagen is produced slowly over a period of four to six weeks. Three to four injection sessions may be required to achieve desired results. Sculptra® has a very long duration, lasting 2 years or more.

Laser Peel, Fractional and Micro-peel

Laser "light" can precisely remove layers of skin. These devices can be adjusted for a deep, fractional (a percentage of surface) or micro settings, there by altering the healing period. Laser peels remove fine wrinkles and superficial pigmentation, and smooth away scars. Deep laser peels moderately tighten the skin. Most superficial laser peels (micro peels) have no or minimal down time and the procedure is conveniently performed in our Kansas City, Missouri, plastic surgery facility. A laser peel treatment can improve pigmentation problems due to sun exposure, acne blemishes, and uneven skin tone. After treatment, skin is tightened and the appearance of wrinkles and other unwanted blemishes are reduced or eliminated.

Non-Surgical Tissue Tightening

Thermi® is a company specializing in developing radio frequency (RF) instruments for non-surgical tissue tightening. One of their devices is ThermiVa which is used for vaginal tightening and labial reduction. The procedure takes less than an hour, is painless and requires no anesthetic (for an informative video go to:

How does this work?

Tissue can be heated by alternating radio frequency (similar to, but not exactly like a microwave). With modest tissue temperature increase around 35-55°C, a structural change occurs in the tissue's collagen, this conformation change can be seen on electron micrographs, and you may notice slight tightening. This altered collagen is gradually replaced with new collagen over the ensuing 2 months. This new collagen will gradually cause tissue to tighten so full results are not instantaneous. This natural biologic process does and will vary from person to person, so results are not completely predictable and sometimes repeat treatments are needed; nor can you say it is permanent as everyone continues to age and with that tissues will relax.
