Facelift

Facelift

Facelift is a surgical procedure performed to tighten the lower face and neck. Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)

Restylane ® and Perlane®

Sculptra®

Fat atrophy of the face inevitably develops in certain facial areas as we age. This loss of fat increases skin laxity, deep folds, visibility of the orbital bones under the eyes and a hallowness of cheeks, and overall tired look. Adding volume and firmness to the face significantly improves these signs of aging.

One way to add volume is Sculptra®. Sculptra® is an injectable synthetic form of poly-l-lactic acid, a compound naturally present in the body. There have been no reported allergic reactions or adverse systemic effects since its use began in 2004.

Sculptra® is injected by a small needle into the deep layers of the skin. Around these tiny micro beads of poly-l-lactic acid, the body forms fibroblasts which produce new collagen. New collagen is produced slowly over a period of four to six weeks. Three to four injection sessions may be required to achieve desired results. Sculptra® has a very long duration, lasting 2 years or more.

Laser Peel, Fractional and Micro-peel

Laser "light" can precisely remove layers of skin. These devices can be adjusted for a deep, fractional (a percentage of surface) or micro settings, there by altering the healing period.

Laser peels remove fine wrinkles and superficial pigmentation, and smooth away scars. Deep laser peels moderately tighten the skin. Most superficial laser peels (micro peels) have no or minimal down time and the procedure is conveniently performed in our Kansas City, Missouri, plastic surgery facility. Thermage®

Thermage®

Skin laxity that develops with aging can be improved with Thermage®, also known as Thermacool™; a procedure which is non invasive with no down time. Thermage® treatment is useful for a modest tightening and firming of the skin without surgery. It is not meant to replace face lift surgery because the results are not as long lasting or as dramatic. If you don't want the down time of surgery but still want a tighter, firmer, less wrinkled looking face, Thermage® may be the best option. Thermage can also be used for skin tightening of the abdomen, thighs, and breast.

Thermage® uses safe radio frequency energy to heat the deeper layers of the skin and underlying tissue. This uniform heating of the deep layer of the skin causes the collagen, a structural protein, to change. This is followed by a gradual replacement of the collagen with new collagen. It is this build up of new collagen which tightens the skin.

The procedure takes an hour for full face and neck treatment, but two hours for abdomen. There is some mild discomfort with the procedure, which is adjusted to each person's tolerance. After the procedure there is some minimal swelling and redness which fades over a few hours. Make-up may be applied immediately after the treatment. You will be given an oral pain medication prior to treatment. For most patients the tightening and firming improves gradually over two to six months, although some patients see an earlier response. These results may last for up to two years.

A single treatment has produced noticeable results in a significant number of patients, however, the number and frequency of your treatments is tailored to meet your skin condition needs and your desired results.

Thread Lift

We are pleased to introduce the thread lift procedure at our Kansas City, Missouri, practice. The thread lift, using barbed Contour Threads™, has a niche for facial rejuvenation. It provides some subtle improvement for sagging facial appearance with very limited scarring, post-procedure healing, and risk.

This improvement in facial appearance is more dramatic than seen with Thermage®, but is not the equivalent of a facelift. A thread lift has only 20 to 30 percent of the effect a typical facelift provides. These non-absorbable clear sutures can be used to lift a low eyebrow position, raise cheeks and jowls, and tighten loose neck tissue. They are best suited for those in their thirties to fifties with early signs of aging.

For extensive changes in the facial appearance of older individuals with more advanced signs of age, a surgical facelift is required. The thread lift can be performed under a local anesthetic or a general anesthetic. Bruising and swelling following a thread lift usually lasts about five to seven days. The thread lift procedure is frequently combined with other procedures such as blepharoplasty, liposuction, and laser procedures.

Thread lifts can be done years after a regular facelift for touch-up tightening in small areas of the face. This extends the effect of the surgical lift by several years.

Patients in their thirties to fifties can slow the effects of aging, regain a younger looking face, and delay the need for a facelift by treating the skin from the inside out. This is done by combining several modalities such as:

• Thermage® to build new collagen that tightens and firms the face.
• Thread lifts for tightening problem areas around the eyes, jowls, cheeks and neck.
• BOTOX® Cosmetic and facial fillers for lines and facial fullness.
