Lipodissolve : Effective Fat Reduction by Injection Lipolysis

Lipodissolve is a way to shrink those small, unwanted, loathsome, fat bulges without surgery. In essence, it is localized reduction of subcutaneous fat by pharmaceutical injection and it is available at our Kansas City area practice. It is effective and suitable for subtle fat reduction of a limited area, but is not the equivalent of liposuction in effectiveness.

For most individuals, Lipodissolve is more of an adjunct to liposuction than a replacement and is used frequently for "touchups". Lipodissolve is useful as an alternative to liposuction for those seeking a minimally invasive treatment for a small area, whereas liposuction is the better option for a larger volume of fat reduction. The best results are achieved in those individuals who are closest to their ideal weight and need improvement in small, focused area. The areas treated with injection lipolysis include hips, abdomen, thighs, knees, arms, ankles, back, neck, and face.

The Lipodissolve procedure usually involves three sessions of multiple injections of a solution into the subcutaneous fat. These injections use a very small, short needle and are spaced 1 cm to 1.5 cm apart. A small volume of phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate solution is placed in the fat, which causes the fat cells to eventually die and their fatty contents and debris to be absorbed. Typically these three injection sessions are spaced one to two months apart to slowly diminish the fat. Caution and care are needed with the injections, as this solution will cause other tissues to die if it is inadvertently injected elsewhere.

After these injections, there is swelling and tenderness for 7 to 10 days. There is a 2500 milligram limit on the amount of this solution to be injected at each session. This means the area to be treated is not very large, something like 15 cm x 15 cm. With each session of injection there is a slow, but definite reduction of subcutaneous fat. This product is available to physicians, but is not approved by the FDA for subcutaneous fat injection.
